GENEVA () -- U.S. and North Korean negotiators Friday signed a landmark accord hailed as a means of easing nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula.
The agreement commits North Korea to open up its secretive nuclear program in return for more modern technology, aid, and diplomatic links with the United States. It was reached after more than a year of confrontation and is meant to end decades of suspicion and bitterness.
