BASTAD, Sweden -- German Bernd Karbacher ruined the chances of a potential candidate for the Swedish Davis Cup squad as he upset second seed Henrik Holm 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 in the first round of the $313,750 Swedish Open. Holm was a possible replacement as two higher-ranked Swedes withdrew from the Bastad tournament and Davis Cup. Sweden faces France away in a Davis Cup quarterfinal July 15-17. Magnus Larsson, seeded 27th in the world, was the most recent top seed at Bastad to withdraw.
