NHL Mulls Season Cuts

TORONTO () -- National Hockey League general managers have discussed cutting the season in half or canceling it altogether if the league's labor troubles are not solved by New Year's Day, The Canadian Press reported.

Although no decisions were made during a conference call Tuesday, the wire service reported that the general managers were zeroing in on a 40-game season beginning Jan. 1 as the minimum for a legitimate season. "Once you get past the point when each team can't play at least 40 games, it is past the point of no return," Anaheim Mighty Ducks president Tony Tavares said.
