New Judge Approved

MOSCOW () -- The Federation Council on Wednesday approved one of President Boris Yeltsin's five nominees for the Constitutional Court.

Yury Danilov, deputy head of the State Antitrust Committee, was the only one of five nominees who received the required majority of votes in the upper house of Russian parliament.

Despite an elaborate three-round voting system, the other candidates, in

cluding Justice Minister Yury Kalmykov, were eliminated, making it necessary for Yeltsin to select new candidates to present to the chamber.
