MOSCOW () -- Four people died and 11 were in critical condition after eating poisonous mushrooms in the Krasnodar region, the Emergency Situations Ministry reported Friday.
A total of 22 people were hospitalized in the poisoning case, including six children, the ministry said in a report carried by Interfax.
Mushroom poisonings are frequent in Russia where many people pick up or buy mushrooms as a welcome variety in their diet. Poisonous mushrooms are sometimes hard to distinguish from the safe ones.
Last August, four people died of mushroom poisoning in the Russian Far East. Two years ago, a spate of mushroom-related poisonings hit Russia and Ukraine, killing dozens.
