MP Brown in Spy Scam

EDINBURGH () -- A former British opposition parliamentarian admitted he had given information to a Soviet intelligence agent for several years but insisted he did not know he was aiding a spy.

Controversial left-winger Ron Brown said Monday he had met with Soviet double agent Oleg Gordievsky, a KGB colonel masquerading as a London Tass correspondent, on several occasions.

Recruited as a double-agent by British intelligence in 1974, Gordievsky is said to be about to name 24 Britons he used in his work for Moscow in a forthcoming book.
