Mitterrand Has Surgery

PARIS -- French President Francois Mitterrand, suffering from prostate cancer, underwent surgery Monday and was reported in good condition.

The operation was the second performed on Mitterrand, 77, since doctors diagnosed him with prostate cancer in the fall of 1992.

There was no immediate word on the type of operation, but a June 30 medical report said the president had experienced some minor complication from the previous surgery.
