Mir Crew Land Safely

MOSCOW () -- A rocket carrying a German scientist and two cosmonauts headed back to Earth from the space station Mir on Friday, concluding a month-long joint mission funded by the European Space Agency.


The Soyuz-TM-19 made a successful landing in northern Kazakhstan, about 3 1/2 hours after undocking from Mir, Itar-Tass reported.


Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev was on hand for the landing.


German scientist Ulf Merbold, Yury Malenchenko of Russia and Talgat Musabayev of Kazakhstan were on board
