Miners Back to Work

KIEV () -- Nearly 3,000 Ukrainian iron ore miners returned to work Wednesday after a 50-day stoppage which caused huge losses, officials said.

Miners from 15 pits in the Krivy Rih iron basin called off the strike after the government promised to try to introduce pay rises and investigate corruption charges against mining bosses. The Kryvbasruda iron mining concern suffered losses of about $1.4 million because of the strike, deputy general director Mykola Grigoriev said.
