Latvian Informer Quits

RIGA, Latvia -- Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Birkavs on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Foreign Minister Georgs Andrejevs who had offered to step down after admitting passing on information to the KGB, Latvian radio said. The radio, monitored in London by the BBC, said Birkavs expressed gratitude to Andrejevs for his work. The prime minister will take over the job of foreign minister until a new candidate for the post is found. Andrejevs on Monday offered to resign as both minister and parliamentary deputy.
