Kurlovich Jerks to Win

ISTANBUL, Turkey () -- Veteran Belarussian Alexander Kurlovich scored a victory for experience by beating rising Russian star Andrei Chemerkin to win the over-108 kilogram class at the world weightlifting championships Sunday.

Kurlovich, 32 and already greying, broke six world records on his way to a final superheavyweight total of 457.5 kilograms. The 22-year-old Chemerkin's solitary jerk record of 252.5 kilograms was not enough to give him even one gold as Kurlovich swiftly overtook it with a jerk of 253.0 kilograms and took the crown of "strongest man in the world."
