Kola Nuclear Cleanup

OSLO () -- Foreign Minister Andrei Kozyrev said he would speed up work to remove nuclear waste on the Kola peninsula, which borders Norway in the Arctic.

Kozyrev was speaking Wednesday before a meeting of the Barents Council, founded in 1993 to formalize cooperation between Moscow and the three Nordic countries. Russia takes over the presidency next week.

Kozyrev said he would use the presidency to work harder to clean up the nuclear contamination on the Kola -- a major concern of neighboring Norway.
