GLASGOW() -- Italy's former world champion Maurizio Fondriest won a sprint home to score his first victory since a four-month lay-off in the opening stage of the Tour of Britain.
Fondriest, 29, took the flag Monday ahead of Australia's Scott Sunderland and Russia's Viatcheslav Ekimov after England's Ben Luckwell went out alone for 92 miles.
