Ingush Chief Reelected

The president of Ingushetia, Ruslan Aushev, has been reelected in presidential elections held in the North Caucasus region, Itar-Tass reported Monday.

Quoting preliminary figures, the news agency said Aushev, who has taken a strong pro-Ingush line and who accuses Moscow of favoring neighboring Ossetia in territorial disputes between the two regions, was voted back into office on a turnout of over 70 percent Sunday.

Aushev, an Afghan war hero, was running against a former state farm manager Bamatgirei Mankiyev, Interfax reported.
