Humanitarian Theft

MOSCOW -- Russian gangsters tied a Latvian truck driver to a tree for two days while they stole his cargo but fed him three meals a day to make sure he did not starve, Itar-Tass said Monday.


The victim, driving a truck filled with Belgian goods, had just crossed the border from Latvia into Russia when he was held up by masked men who tied him to a tree and blindfolded him.


"The hijackers turned out to be humanitarians. They fed him well three times a day and even gave him hot food, as well as continually offering him cold drinks," the news agency said. The driver was eventually released unharme
