Guards Expel Chinese

MOSCOW () -- Border guards expelled a group of Chinese citizens who were illegally residing in Russia, bringing the total number of Chinese kicked out to 770 already this year, Itar-Tass said Wednesday.

The Chinese were living illegally in the Russian Far East and had violated passport regulations, the agency said. The report did not say exactly how many Chinese had been sent home.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, many Chinese have illegally crossed into Russia to work or trade.

Russian border guards together with local police are now carrying out an operation, code-named "Foreigner," to round up Chinese people with overdue visas or forged passports.
