Goodwill Security

ST. PETERSBURG-- Security guards for next month's Goodwill Games will be wearing U.S. Army surplus uniforms and bulletproof vests, Mayor Anatoly Sobchak said. Sobchak, responding to criticism about the city's organization of the games, told a Monday news conference that the preparations are on schedule for the July 23-Aug. 7 competition. Sobchak also said President Boris Yeltsin had approved the city's request for an additional 15 billion rubles to help finance the games. Critics have predicted an organizational disaster.
