Ex-Prosecutor Cleared in Boy's Death

A former Volgograd prosecutor who killed a 7-year-old boy in a traffic incident will not face any charges, Ekho Moskvy radio reported Tuesday.

Yelena Ivanova ran over Sasha Kolokoltsev on a pedestrian crossing in June. The investigation was initially handled by Ivanova's former colleague but was transferred to the regional branch of the Investigative Committee at the request of Kolokoltsev's parents.

The committee said Tuesday that it had closed the case for lack of evidence of wrongdoing.

The boy's mother, Tatyana Kolokoltseva, said there had been no fair investigation and vowed to appeal to the Prosecutor General's Office.

"Everything was done in order to whitewash Yelena Ivanova," she said, Rosbalt reported.

Several rallies have been held in Volgograd calling for a fair investigation.
