Ex-Diplomat Charged

CARRBORO, North Carolina () -- Former U.S. diplomat Felix Bloch has been charged with shoplifting, the second time in two years he has been accused of theft.

Bloch was a career State Department employee who was investigated by the FBI in 1989 after a videotape allegedly showed him passing a briefcase to a known Soviet agent in Paris.

Never charged, he was dismissed as a security risk in 1990. He now works as a bus driver.

Bloch was arrested after a security officer stopped him upon leaving a grocery store. The officer told police Bloch had stuffed two bottles of headache tablets, pepperoni, pita bread, and lemonade mix into his jacket and pants.

Bloch was fired as a check-out clerk at a grocery store in 1993, when fellow employees accused him of stealing.
