Doctor Sentenced

HARARE, Zimbabwe () -- A white doctor convicted of manslaughter in the deaths of two nonwhite patients was sentenced Wednesday to six months in jail and fined 10,000 Zimbabwe dollars ($2,000).

Dr. Richard McGown, an anesthesiologist, had been accused of experimenting on patients by giving them differing levels of morphine. Two young patients, one black and one Asian, died after surgery in which he administered anesthesia.

Black militants had threatened to attack whites if McGown failed to receive a stiff sentence.
