Dini Wins New Vote

ROME ) -- Italian Prime Minister Lamberto Dini's government has won a Senate confidence vote to push passage of a deficit-cutting package Tuesday, copying the strategy he used to win in the Chamber of Deputies.

Before the vote Dini linked the survival of his two-month-old government to the fiscal measures, warning critics they risked driving Italy to an unprecedented financial crisis.

Thanks to support from the left, including Communists, Dini managed to win a confidence vote in the Chamber last week
