Copper Mine Revival

MOSCOW -- Russia might reopen a tender to develop the Udokan copper mines in the far east of the country, giving Australian firms another chance to take part, a top Russian official said Tuesday.

Interfax quoted First Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Soskovets as saying that Russia planned to review a previous tender that awarded development rights to the Udokan Copper Company, which groups three Russian and one foreign firm. The company had not yet started working, Soskovets said after a Moscow meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans.
