Christmas Tree Shopping

The holidays just would not be the same without the appropriate accessories, the most important being the tree. In Russia the sale of fir trees starts late, since the real celebration begins at New Year's. On Dec. 19 or 20, about 95 yolochnye bazary -- fir-tree markets -- sprout up around the city. Some of the central ones are located at 14/17 Baumanskaya Ulitsa, Ploshchad Kurskoga Vokzala, 64 Ulitsa Schepkina, and 48 Krasnaya Presnya. Fresh firs will also be on sale at Natali Flora Service, 7 Ulitsa Krasina (Metro Profsoyuznaya).

Artificial trees are available in selected flower shops, such as Gamma (1 Oktyabrskaya Ploshchad) and Tsvety Rossii (36/50 Lyusinovskaya Ulitsa). The most attractive selection, including predecorated trees, can be found at Swissflor, at 11 Leninsky Prospekt. Christmas trees are also offered at Progress, 17 Zubovsky Bulvar. The White Lily, at 62 Leningradsky Prospekt, has a wonderful selection of fresh flowers, Christmas decorations and poinsettias.
