China Crash Kills 160

BEIJING -- A Chinese domestic airliner crashed shortly after takeoff Monday, killing all 160 people aboard in China's worst plane disaster ever. The official Xinhua News Agency confirmed that there were no survivors. It said the passengers included nine foreigners, three Hong Kong Chinese and one Taiwanese, but did not give the nationalities of the foreigners. "The bodies lay one after another. As a human being, it was hard to take," Dr. Zhang Jiexiong at the Xian Emergency Center said. The Russian-made Tu-154, operated by China's Northwest Airlines, crashed at 8:20 A.M., eight minutes after takeoff from Xian, en route to Canton.
