Child Killing 'Forgiven'

OSLO () -- The grieving mother of a five-year-old Norwegian girl said Tuesday she forgave the boys who beat her daughter and let her freeze to death in a crime that horrified Norway.

Silje Marie Redegaard was playing in the first snow of the winter at the weekend when her playmates, all aged 5 or 6, trampled on her in an icy puddle and hit her with a stone. Dagbladet said the girl fell unconscious and froze to death shortly afterwards.

"I cannot hate or bear a grudge against small children," Beathe Redegaard told the daily Dagbladet. "They cannot have understood what they did. I forgive those who killed my daughter."
