Businessman Arrested

A top Nizhny Novgorod businessman was arrested Friday on suspicion of stealing a government loan worth $18 million, city prosecutor Alexander Fedotov told Interfax.


Andrei Klementyev, who owns a controlling interest in the Oka shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod, has been on the run since July 17.


He was detained in Uzbekistan on Tuesday and handed over to Russian authorities, Fedotov said.


In addition to stealing the loan, he is also charged with giving bribes.
