Blizzard Toll Hits 107

ALMATY () -- The death toll from brutal blizzards raging across northern and western Kazakhstan rose to 107 on Friday, and searchers had given up on finding five missing people.

"There is virtually no hope that they are alive,'' Itar-Tass reported.

After days of fierce wind and snowstorms sweeping down from Siberia, the weather turned warmer Friday, and Itar-Tass said the snow was turning into rain.

The blizzards have killed livestock, left tens of thousands of people without electricity and caused an estimated $3 million in damage.
