BBC Reporter Killed

The British Broadcasting Corporation said Thursday its award-winning correspondent John Harrison had been killed in a car crash in South Africa.


Harrison, 48, who was southern Africa correspondent for the BBC, had long experience as a war reporter in Vietnam and the Middle East.


South African President F.W. de Klerk and African National Congress leader Nelson Mandela telephoned his widow Penny to express their condolences, a BBC spokeswoman said.
