Baltics Pressure Troops

TALLINN, Estonia -- Prime ministers of the three Baltic states have stepped up the pressure on Russia to get its troops out of the region by the end of summer. In a joint communique after a summit in Tallinn, the leaders of the three former Soviet republics said that Moscow must have its forces out, even though it has yet to agree on withdrawal terms with Estonia. "We continue to demand that all military forces of the Russian Federation must be unconditionally withdrawn from the territories of Estonia and Latvia by Aug. 31, 1994," the statement issued Monday read.
