Avoiding Prospekt Mira

Prospekt Mira has recently become a nightmare for drivers who have to drive downtown from the All-Russia Exhibition Center, the former VDNKh, during the day. Several traffic jams around Rizhsky Station and near the intersection with Trifonovskaya Ulitsa can hold you up for at least half an hour.

It is better and faster to use a detour through Sheremetyevskaya Ulitsa. If you are driving from the Kosmos monument, get in the right lane and take the right turn to

Olminskogo Pereulok, your first possible turn after the intersection with Zvezdny Bulvar.

Drive straight ahead until the road forks and take the right fork. After several meters, you will reach the intersection with Zvezdny Bulvar.

Now you should cross the first intersection (there is one-way traffic only in the direction to Prospekt Mira) and turn to the left on the second one. Now follow the bulvar until you reach an intersection where you can only turn left.

So turn left and you will be on Sheremetyevskaya Ulitsa. Drive up the overpass and straight ahead to the intersections with Ulitsa Sushevsky Val.

The only direction you can drive here is to the right, but you should get into the left lane and at the first traffic light turn left to Oktyabrskaya Ulitsa heading toward downtown.

When you see the big Russian Army Theater, turn around it and continue straight, following the bulvar on your left. This will bring you to the intersection with the Garden Ring on Samotechnaya Ploshchad.
