MOSCOW -- A Russian military court has convicted three soldiers of beating to death a young recruit and sentenced them to five to 10 years in prison, a newspaper has reported.
The recruit, who had served with a military unit based near Moscow, was hospitalized last winter. He died shortly afterward, having said he was beaten by fellow troops, the daily Moskovsky Komsomolets said Saturday.
The military investigators detained three soldiers and accused them of systematic harassment of conscripts. Immediately before the fatal beating they had gone on a drunken spree in the barracks.
