Two people have been killed in an explosion that destroyed parts of a chemical plant in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk on Friday morning, a news report said.

Rescuers pulled a further three people from the rubble — two of whom have been hospitalized — after the blast brought down an unused building at the Yenisei plant compound, Interfax reported, citing the regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry.

Ministry spokeswoman Yelena Scheveleva said the incident was caused by a cylinder exploding, Interfax reported.

The blast comes less than a week after an explosion at a Rosneft factory in Krasnoyarsk resulted in the deaths of five people and left firefighters battling an almost 400-square-meter blaze as gas pipelines caught on fire.
