BP Pipeline 'Undamaged'

Bloomberg
BP said Tuesday that the Baku-Supsa pipeline, which transports crude from Azerbaijan to Georgia's Black Sea, coast was "undamaged" and was closed because of security concerns.

Baku-Supsa shipments were halted Aug. 12 because of Russia's offensive in Georgia. Exporters had resumed injections into the link Aug. 2 after about 19 months of repairs. It was used as an export route when another BP-led pipeline, the Baku- Tbilisi-Ceyhan, stopped taking crude for pumping from Azerbaijan to the Mediterranean after a blast Aug. 5.

"The pipeline is safe and undamaged and is shut down as a precaution only," said Tamam Bayatly, a BP spokeswoman in Baku.

"When we feel that can again restart it, we will restart."
