Fans of Mikhail Bulgakov, and particularly of his novel "The Master and Margarita," like to leave their mark in the stairwell of the apartment building on Bolshaya Sadovaya Ulitsa where the writer once lived. After years of wrangles, Mayor Yury Luzhkov has formally handed over Bulgakov's former apartment to the Mikhail Bulgakov Foundation, which plans to open a cultural center on the premises. The foundation is headed by Bulgakov expert and literature professor Marietta Chudakova. Photograph by Igor Tabakov.
