Formula One to Race Round Kremlin

Roads will be closed off as the Formula One teams burn rubber Sunday. Moscow City Racing

Formula One teams will tear speed limits apart as they race around the Kremlin this Sunday with former world champion Lewis Hamilton and other top drivers taking to the streets for Moscow City Racing.

The event starts at Bolotnaya Ploshchad and follows the southern wall of the Kremlin along Kremlyovskaya Naberezhnaya to Bolshoi Kamenny Bridge.

Three Formula 1 teams and their drivers are participating this year: Giancarlo Fisichella from Scuderia Ferrari, 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton from Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes, and Charles Pic from Russian team Marussia F1.

Sunday's race around the Kremlin marks the first time that the young Marussia F1 team has raced in the show.

"The team have told me what a fantastic reception they had from the Russian fans in Sochi last year and it sounds like awesome fun to drive the car through the streets of Moscow … I can't wait to meet the fans and give them a taste of Formula 1 before the team races at what will be its new home for the Grand Prix in 2014," Pic said in comments reported on the Marussia website.

A Formula 1 Grand Prix event will be held in Sochi in 2014.

Moscow City Racing activities run Sunday. From 2 p.m. Bolotnaya Ploshchad. Metro Borovitskaya. mosracing.ru
