St. Petersburg Celebrates 'Scarlet Sails' Despite Coronavirus Surge

St. Petersburg held its annual "Scarlet Sails" celebration for high school grads, the climax of the White Nights festival, this weekend. Some 39,000 people are reported to have attended the event despite a record-setting surge in new coronavirus cases and deaths in Russia's second-largest city.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. Our commitment to providing accurate and unbiased reporting on Russia remains unshaken. But we need your help to continue our critical mission.
