Jazz In the Skies Above Moscow

Dmitry Pokrovsky band solists Alexei Kruglov, Olga Yukevich and Maria Nefedova getting ready for a performance.

On Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. the Worker and Collective Farm Girl monument will resonate with the sounds of jazz. The Jazz on the Roof program will hold a concert in honor of the composer Georgy Sviridov, whose 100th anniversary of birth is being celebrated this year.

The concert of Sviridov's "Kursk Songs" will be performed by the Dmitry Pokrovsky jazz band. The musicians will do an improvisational mix of classical music and folklore based on Sviridov's composition in the first part of the concert. In the second part they will perform a special program based on folk quartet and improvised music.

The concert will be held on the fourth floor of the pedestal building supporting the monument, which is part of the Manege Exhibition Association. Tickets are 300 rubles ($4.30).
