Authorities in Siberia have detained a suspected contract killer whom police considered one of the 10 most dangerous fugitives in Russia, the Interfax news agency reported Thursday.
Andrei Dryunin, who was on a federal wanted list for more than five years in connection with at least 10 contract killings and numerous armed robberies, was detained in the rural Zabaikalsky region.
He had a Makarov pistol and bullets, three fake passports and more than 20 mobile phones in his possession when authorities detained him, the report said.
Dryunin is believed to have been a member of the notorious Osinovskaya gang, responsible for about 80 crimes including 30 contract killings and 30 armed robberies, as well as extortion and fraud, the report said, citing police.
Fifteen others were convicted in 2012 of having participated in the gang's violent crimes.
