A ranking police officer has been gunned down at point-blank range in western Moscow, in a killing that investigators suspect was connected to his work, a news report said.
Attackers fired at least ten shots Tuesday night at Oleg Tolmachev, the chief of the Novo-Peredelkino district police service, who was off-duty at the time, Investigative Committee spokeswoman Viktoria Tsyplenkova said, Interfax reported.
The killers may have used two getaway cars to flee the scene of the shooting, investigators said, according to Interfax.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the attack was connected to Tolmachev's work, Tsyplenkova was quoted as saying.
A criminal case has been opened into the shooting on charges of murder and illegal arms trafficking, Tsyplenkova added.
