Sir Elton John, who made headlines with December 2013 concerts in Russia to support the country's gay people, has announced he will perform in St. Petersburg next year.
The bespectacled pop performer will perform at the city's Ice Palace venue in November, Colta.ru reported Monday, citing the concert's organizers.
Though Orthodox and Muslim religious leaders called for a boycott of his concerts, John performed in Moscow and Kazan last year and dedicated his Moscow concert to a gay Volgograd resident who was killed in May.
John, who is openly gay, decided to go ahead with the performances last year amid continuing Western criticism of Russia's law banning the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations to minors.
