The world's first view of Earth taken by a spacecraft from the vicinity of the Moon.

Forty-eight years ago today, on Feb. 3, 1966, the first soft landing on the Moon was achieved by the unmanned Soviet spacecraft Luna 9. After landing, three series of television pictures were transmitted back to Earth, providing the first panoramic view of the lunar surface.
