$2Bln Russian-Finnish Electric Plant Opens in West Siberia

President Vladimir Putin and Finnish President Sauli Niinisto on Wednesday launched the Nyagan hydroelectric plant in the Khanty-Mansi autonomous region built by Russian-Finnish energy concern Fortum.

Prior to the launching ceremony the two leaders inspected the new power plant's layout and visited the first block's engine room, the official Kremlin's site said.

The new power plant, begun in 2008, was built by Fortum as part of its development project in the Urals and Western Siberia, Prime reported.

The project's total cost exceeded 60 billion rubles ($1.9 billion). It is expected that the power plant will reach a total output of 1,250 megawatt when all three power blocks become operational.
