Moscow's Nikulinsky District Court has sentenced a man to 6 1/2 years in prison for causing the car crash that killed renowned actress Marina Golub.
Sentenced on Monday, Alexei Rusakov was also stripped of his driving license for 3 years and ordered to pay 560,000 rubles ($17,000) in compensation to the relatives of the Golub's taxi driver, Dmitry Turkin, who died in the smash.
"The state prosecution believes the verdict is legal and justified," a representative for the prosecution said.
The crash happened in October 2012 when Rusakov ran a red light in southwest Moscow at the intersection of Prospekt Vernadskogo and Ulitsa Lobachevskogo. His Cadillac slammed into three cars, including the taxi Golub was traveling in. Golub died at the scene of the crash.
Rusakov got out of his car and escaped on foot, but was arrested three days later and charged with violation of traffic rules, resulting in the deaths of two or more people.
