Investigators have detained two nurses suspected of inflicting savage beatings on three small children in a Khabarovsk region orphanage.
The nurses, who allegedly beat the children during a drinking bout on April 1, had evaded capture since the orphanage reported them on April 8, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
Russia's top investigator, Alexander Bastrykin, has called for the nurses to be arrested after one of the victims, aged seven months, fell into a coma. The other two children, one aged three years and another 10 months, suffered soft tissue injuries and bruising.
The youngest victim is out of a coma and recovering, state-run TV channel Channel 1 reported.
