Motorist Dies in Roadside Shoot-Out

A motorist fatally shot another driver after they quarreled on a roadside in the city's northwest Friday night, police said.

The quarrel took place alongside Ulitsa Nizhniye Mnevniki and involved guns, Interfax reported.

But while the victim, an unidentified Mercedes S-300 driver, was using an air gun, the other driver pulled out a real firearm and severely wounded his opponent, police said.

The Mercedes driver later died in a city hospital, police told the news agency.

The shooting comes days after Dmitry Vinogradov, a legal adviser for the Rigla pharmaceutical company, went on a rampage Wednesday in the office where he worked in northern Moscow, killing five and wounding two others.

One of the wounded victims died in the hospital the following day.

Vinogradov used two hunting rifles he legally bought, despite having psychological problems, investigators said.

On the back of the shooting, the State Duma announced that it was planning to increase restrictions on weapons possession.

Among new restrictions, lawmakers are planning to ban citizens from carrying hunting weapons in public places and increase the minimum age for carrying a hunting rifle from 18 to 21, State Duma Deputy Speaker Sergei Zheleznyak told Russian News Service radio last week.
