One man died and six were injured when an An-2 single-engine biplane crash-landed onto a lake shore in Siberia's Tuva republic Monday, Interfax said.
The plane, owned by a local logging company, was performing an unauthorized flight for an unspecified purpose and had picked up some local fishermen along the way, it said, citing a Federal Air Transportation Agency official.
It remained unclear whether the crash was caused by overloading or a technical malfunction. An emergency helicopter was dispatched to pick up the survivors, three of whom were in serious condition.
A string of incidents with An-series planes has taken place in remote regions this summer, prompting the government to threaten a crackdown on small air carriers.
