Imam Killed in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA — Gunmen have killed a local imam in Dagestan, police said.

The two attackers fired gunshots into the window of the imam's home in the village of Yasnaya Polyana, killing him Saturday, police spokesman Vyacheslav Gasanov said.

Nikolai Sintsov, a spokesman for the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, blamed Islamist militants for the killing, saying the imam had denounced them.
