Moscow State University made it to the 33rd slot on the first-ever ranking of world universities’ reputations compiled by Times Higher Education, which polled more than 13,000 academicians.
The rating, which will be released Thursday, is a supplementary to the British weekly’s prestigious annual World University Rankings, the latest edition of which, out last fall, failed to list Moscow State University, also known as MGU, or any other Russian school in the top 200.
While the World Reputation Ranking is based on a survey of professionals, the main World University Rankings uses a complex methodology that includes a reputation survey as one of the factors.
Harvard University, which topped the 2010 World University Ranking, ranked first in reputation as well. The reputation chart is dominated by U.S. schools, which hold 45 places in the top 100, including seven in the top 10, where they are only edged out by Britain’s Cambridge and Oxford at third and sixth, respectively, and eighth-placed University of Tokyo.
