Investigative Agency Bill

The State Duma passed in the third and final reading Wednesday a bill separating the Investigative Committee from the Prosecutor General’s Office, RIA-Novosti reported.

The bill, introduced by President Dmitry Medvedev in September, defines the sphere of responsibility of the committee, which will handle the investigation of grave crimes, including murders and sexual assaults.

Medvedev is expected to sign the  bill into law by Jan. 15.
