Moscow has taken 4th place for traffic jams among 20 world cities, researchers at IBM concluded. Moscow is behind only Beijing, Mexico City and Johannesburg.
In Moscow, 43 percent of drivers admitted that they might turn around and go home because of traffic jams, and 35 percent at least once in the last month have missed work, which is the highest score among all the cities for that indicator. Moscow drivers are the most patient: The average maximum time in a traffic jam in the past three years is 2.5 hours, say respondents. This is more than all the other cities, and twice the average of 1.1 hours. Forty-two
percent of Moscow's drivers have spent more than 3 hours waiting in a traffic jam, which is the highest value in the world.
A daily one-way trip in Moscow is higher than average both for distance and time in other cities: 21.9 kilometers against 20.9 kilometers; 42.1 minutes against 31.9 minutes.
Half of Moscow’s drivers, the highest rate among all surveyed cities, said aggressive or rude driving is a serious problem.
In addition, Moscow has the highest rate among cities of the unpredictability of traffic congestion: 57 percent of respondents reported that it is not possible to predict travel time.
